Utilizing this blog for the classroom
Well, utilizing this blog for my classroom will be a tad more challenging. I teach Pre-K which means I have a room full of 4-5 year old students some which don't even speak English. So, I think the way I can use this blog effectively would be to gear it towards all the parents. I can post current events and important dates. I can show them I am bettering myself by posting my blogs about class. I can also post pictures of work or student (with permission) assessment. One of the ways the state of GA asks us to show assessment is pictures. The parents don't get to see the pictures until the end of the year when they take their portfolio home. This might be a good way for them to see their child in action.

Wow, it sounds like it would be a little changeling to have your students’ use blogs in your classroom. I think that using your blog for parents would be very useful tool for you to communicate with parents about class-related information. Parents could view items such as a calendar with important dates and events, assignments, and important information. My daughter has a parent teacher conference today and I would love to be there but I can’t because I have to teach. It would be great if they would use a blog to showcase student work and class activities. The ability to access the internet is the only problem I would foresee for some parents. I think that only 60% Americans have a computer. One way to overcome that challenge may to be print out several packets that would show important class activities from your blog. I definitely think you are on the right track in regards to utilizing a blog for your class. I just want to start small and work my way up to more advance ways of using blogs in my class.
ReplyDeleteGreg-
thanks for the comment. I think that I will continue to use it for a calendar and give the parents my url.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends teaches a kindergarten class and has pictures of her students and their work posted on her district connection page. Every Friday, they come in from recess and sit at the carpet to see what is new on their page for the week. They love it!
ReplyDeleteAnother friend had her child in that class and every weekend their son would make sure that his parents logged on to view the page.
How often do you think would you update the blog?
I think that updating it might be my challenge. If I used it to showcase work maybe I could update it weekly. My schedule seems crazy between school, home, and now college life. But if I only used it to post things for parents at least every 2 weeks. This might cut down on a lot of paper being used. I like to do my part of helping the trees when I can.
